First Tech Challenge (FTC)
Six to ten students/FTC team participate in the fall competition where robots must fit within an 18 inch bounding box. The robots are built using the Lego Mindstorm and Lego Tetrix kits. Veteran students show new team members what they've learned throughout the previous year(s). New students are trained and get hands on experience before working on the Winter 120 lb robots. Students are involved with project based learning, hands on experience building a robot, electronics, programming and most importantly -- team work.
This year we had an explosive growth and our team had grown to 35+ students. We had to split into 4 teams this year, which is the most we have ever had for the FTC season. Three of the four teams qualified for the WA State Championship recognized for robot performance, robot design, team engineering notebook and community outreach. Team #3231 SyZyGy qualified for the western states super Championship - #3231 had to decline due to conflict with the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC).
